The group traveled for some time, nonstop, until they reached Soldier Town. As always, for efficiency, they chose the peripheral path.

Anyway, with Caius and Hugo there, they could be alerted of landmines along their path. Of course, they couldn’t traverse at car speed and the two still had to determine a safe path.

Further, the path was still filled with holes, but with Cauis on the team, they managed to fill up enough so the cars could pass.

As such, although there were still a number of zombies, it was nothing overwhelming at all. Especially not compared to the denser urban areas they had to pass through.

“Now, how do we investigate without alerting the enemies?” Khalifa voiced out, thinking, while they traveled the perimeter.

All of their faces were known, and there was a blood test at the gates. Even if they disguised themselves, their blood would get flagged.

However, they weren’t even able to think about it as a mob found them—a slightly bigger one than before.

They sighed and this time the soldiers, Sigmund, Jacob, and Kaize went out to deal with it.

Their truck had a sunroof so they went out there. It also helped that, even if their path was cleared, it was still a fact that there were still a few untouched landmines here and there.

That was to say, they could use them to deal with the damned things, preserving a lot of energy.

They took out some rotting meat they collected on the way, using it as bait.

Cauis was the one who held it, throwing it to where he sensed a landmine was located. A lot of zombies went to this direction and—

Boom!

They watched as dozens of zombies got flown to pieces. Kaize chuckled at their luck but was shut up when a zombie innards flew in his direction and landed on his cheek.

“Yuckkk!”

Hugo laughed.

Anyway, the team went back to the car and hurriedly went forward, avoiding most of the zombies attracted by the noise.

At some point, the ones assigned to clean up the zombies while the car ran was Khalifa and Jacob, who had gone down to hanging at the side for easier access to the zombies.

This went on for several minutes and it could be said that the trip was normal and even smooth, until—-

SCREECH!!

The car suddenly screeched to a halt, hitting something, and fell on the side.

BOOM!

It happened quickly, but fortunately everyone had lived in the apocalypse for many weeks and had improved reflexes.

Several men tried to cushion Khalifa in their arms and immediately escaped the car as soon as they could, with the defense capabilities of Hugo and Caius in full play.

The two immediately built a wall around them, shielding them from the rabid zombies outside, with Jacob and the others dealing with the zombies trapped inside.

“What’s going on?” Khalifa mumbled as the zombies were beheaded. She was being carried by Kylo at this time.

They took this time to get a breather from the shock and make a plan.

But then banging sounds nearby resounded, there were sounds of force hitting rocks, followed by the sound of force hitting metal.

Cauis’ earth walls soon showed some cracks while a small dent appeared on the metal sheet.

They were shocked.

They normally wouldn’t be able to do this! Especially not so quickly!

Bang! Bang!

“What’s… going on.” Cauis whispered as he reinforced his side of the wall. His amber eyes soon showed signs of worry.

Jacob parcoured above the walls and stood on the corner. He held up his weapon and stabbed a few zombies climbing up.

He stabbed and stabbed before looking back at them. “Upgraded zombies.”

“What? They’re not supposed to appear until a month later.”

Everyone looked at each other, shocked by this development. However, they had also been surrounded by mobs before, so they didn’t panic.

Kylo naturally took the role of strategist.

“Retain two walls for cover,” he said, “Open the rest.”

The wall fell down to see a small area around them, led by a large zombie that had created a dent, and another zombie who could throw rocks—an earth user.

“Really upgraded…” A soldier said, pale.

Kylo remained unmoved.

“Cauis, create earth spikes between us.”

The professor nodded, creating spikes lined up around them, creating a makeshift barrier to slow down the enemy.

He left it like so with the others slowly killing those that go past.

Of course, the upgraded zombies easily passed through this and targeted the nearest person.

It was a super strength zombie whose hands could create a small crater wherever it touched.

Kylo walked forward, electricity surrounding him. The voltage moved like a live snake and wrapped around the zombie.

Khalifa doused it with water and Hugo spiked metals at it before Kylo electrocuted it. The end was a very burnt 2-meter-tall zombie.

Groan

Surprisingly, after all that it was still moving. Kylo frowned, and electrocuted it again, with Kaize adding fire before it finally turned to ashes.

Jacob and Cauis worked together against the earth user, while the soldiers and Sigmund handled the mobs.

Cauis used what he could to trap him, to stop his powers, and a lot of his strength was used to capture the earth projectiles that hurled towards them,

Cauis frowned and looked in a direction, “Lead him over there, Jacob!” He said, “Be careful not to step on it yourself.”

Jacob nodded and narrowed his eyes in the plot of land Cauis pointed at.

They threw attack after attack slowly pushing it back, with Jacob finally kicking it to the landmine.

Boom!

“Fuck!” Kaize yelled as bits of innards flew to him again. “Shittt!”

They all smiled and handled the remaining mobs, relieved, but also worried.

After all, although they dealt with the two relatively easily, this was only because all of them were strong.

What about other people?

However, before they could celebrate and clear up all the mobs, a shadow appeared so fast they weren’t able to capture it until it was close.

Their hearts dropped.

“Watch out!”

Unexpectedly, there was another one—a zombie with super speed abilities—still in the midst.

It went past the mobs and between the group, targeting a random human to consume.

It happened that the scientist was the nearest to where he was, and the next moment he was only an inch away from him.

They saw its mouth open aiming to bite Sigmund whose arms were raised as he tried to kill a regular zombie, unable to pull it back on time.

“Sigmund!”

Sigmund’s red eyes widened as he saw the monster face-to-face with him.

But he found himself losing balance to the side and saw Jacob take its neck. With a groan, he beheaded it with his hand.

However, he saw the zombie’s teeth definitely bury in the curly-haired man’s arm.

His white eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the man, and then looked at the decided lack of blood from the wound.

Things happened very quickly, and Khalifa rushed to Jacob’s aid.

“Oh no.”

The gentle voice of that woman sounded and she immediately took the man’s hand, her ability dousing it with comforting warmth.

Khalifa immediately healed the man until the wound closed.

Sigmund’s red eyes traced over the wound, the man, and the woman, but it shifted, as if they never looked at all.
