Of course, while Hugo was horny as heck, how could he let his Khalifa go to bed hungry?

So first, they ate a lovely dinner in the amenity area with the food delivered to them from the canteen.

The food was warm and lovely. It was a piping hot meal consisting of a meat dish with vegetable side dishes—a luxury in the last days.

As they ate, the two women asked more about Khalifa and her men. For example, they’d find out that Cauis was an accounting professor, then they’d look at Hugo and mumble he should read more.

Kaize, they had heard of but hadn’t met, but they were a fan of his work. When he arrived there, they were quite excited but he was more of their Hugo’s rival so their attitude towards him was a little critical.

But when everything went light, the two women entered somewhat of a fangirling mode and Kaize was very smug when Hugo was compared to him.

“I loved that spy movie!” Auntie said and grandma nodded in agreement, making Hugo sneer.

“He acts like a spy, I can do it in real life.”

The women acted as if they didn’t see him, and just continued to ask for behind the scenes trivias from Kaize.

Hugo: “…”

Jacob didn’t speak a lot, but they learned he was an athlete. “Good boy!” Grandma said, patting his arm. “You must’ve made your parents proud.”

It stung in Jacob’s slow heart and he nodded, smiling a little.

As for Sigmund, he was just eating, and when they found out that he was the leading proponent to finding the cure for the virus, the women gaped at him as if he was a god.

Sigmund’s face didn’t change though, as straightforward as always. “I haven’t found the cure yet. Please don’t get bitten in the meantime,” he said, resuming his meal.

“…”

“…”

Anyway, on the flip side, they also got to know more about Grandma Loo, who was apparently among the main gang members back then.

“Don’t look at her all calm now, she was a respected fighter youth. I learned my shooting from grandma, you know,” Hugo said and it made the younger generation look at Grandma in a whole light.

She just lost the fight when her husband died, moving to more motherly roles to raise her grandchildren, though she only had one Hugo.

“I wish I had more. I wish we had a granddaughter,” she said wistfully, patting Khalifa’s hand. “He’s such a brat. A well-behaved little girl would’ve been great.”

Auntie smiled, also a bit teary. “Well, now we have a granddaughter named Khalifa,” she chuckled. “Of course, it’d be even better if you could give birth to one, then we’d have two.”

This made the men’s ears twitch a bit and they looked at Khalifa, and then to her stomach.

Khalifa rolled her eyes. “I’m not pregnant,” she said and the men’s shoulders dropped.

Auntie Tina laughed for a while but if one looked closer she also looked wistful. Hugo saw this and sighed in pity.

Uncle, his dad’s younger brother, became a zombie after protecting her from one. They were a well-known loving couple who, sadly, weren’t blessed with children. It was mostly damage in his uncle’s body, and it made his uncle very sorry for his wife.

It wasn’t that they hadn’t tried artificial methods through the past decade either, especially with the amount of money they had. Sadly, none had worked for them either.

His uncle’s death hadn’t been too long ago so there were still many times that Auntie would look far away, enter a daze, and then cry all of a sudden.

Like now.

Khalifa and the others were extremely surprised when the gentle woman who was laughing a few seconds prior suddenly burst into tears.

“Wuu… he… he told me he was so sorry he wasn’t able to give me what I wanted the most. He wanted me to find new love, but how could I? That jerk.. Wuu…”

Khalifa sat next to her and patted her arms. “Well, I am your daughter now, auntie,” she said, and it calmed the woman down a bit.

Hugo chuckled, watching the interactions. The men of the family were too busy to raise a kid, and these two women were his closest family members. It made him happy to watch them interact closely.

After a bit of talking, Khalifa returned to her seat beside him to resume eating. Hugo watched her, and Khalifa watched him back.

“What is it, love?” He asked, kissing her temple.

“What about your parents?”

Hugo blinked, entering a bit of a daze. “My mother…. she was killed during one of the attacks of dad’s enemies. He killed them all brutally of course.”

There was silence and the atmosphere darkened just a bit. Hugo shook his head. “It’s been so long ago. I’m fine now. I still have family when most people lost theirs.”

Khalifa smiled, resting her pretty head on his shoulder. “Well, we do.”

Hugo’s lips turned upwards as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders to flush her against him.

“Would be better if you give me a child, Khalifa,” he said, chuckling, and the other men kicked him from under the table…

“Ouch!” He yelled, glaring at the men—specifically at Kaize, who he just knew was the one who kicked the hardest!

“Why? Wanna fight?” Kaize asked as if he could really beat the man. Hugo sneered and gestured to stand up, but was held down by Khalifa.

Grandma shook her head with a smile, just amused at the liveliness of the room. She then looked at the other guests, the couple, who seemed to be happily watching the sidelines in their own world.

As the hero and the heroine, their charm still held strong. Auntie looked at Claire’s stomach and smiled. “When is the baby due?”

“In a few months, auntie,” she said, holding Chris’ hands.

“Aw, how cute,” Grandma said, chuckling. “The first generation born after the apocalypse. Sounds symbolical, doesn’t it?”

This made them all turn to Claire’s stomach with bright eyes.

Indeed. How important was it to see a new generation born?

At this, the atmosphere was doused with an air of calmness and gratitude.

They were all alive and well, and hopefully it’d only get better.
