Chapter 252: Chapter-252

His expression became grim.

“But during all that commotion, Maya literally… injured her elder brother. He was trying to stop a fight between Maya and their parents—both father and mother were shouting, trying to calm her down. Maya wanted to rush out of the house to meet her tutor secretly. In her rage and hurry, she violently pushed her elder brother aside.”

The System’s voice dropped.

“He hit his head on a stone pillar. The impact caused a massive head injury that literally brought him to death’s doorstep. If it hadn’t been for a miracle doctor who happened to be passing through the town at that exact time and saved him, the brother would have died right there.”

Heena had stopped washing dishes entirely, listening with growing horror.

“And after seeing what she’d done—after nearly killing her own brother—that woman showed NO remorse whatsoever. None. She didn’t apologize, didn’t cry, didn’t feel guilty. She just kept insisting she had the right to marry whoever she wanted.”

The System sighed deeply.

“At that point, the parents’ hearts literally broke. They realized their daughter was beyond saving. So they formally broke off all family connections with her and let her go. But because they were still good people despite everything, they gave her a proper dowry and everything she was entitled to as their daughter. Then they cut all ties.”

Hearing that complete story, Heena felt a rare flash of genuine anger.

“You know,” she said quietly, “there’s a saying that ’every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child.’ But actually, it should be the other way around sometimes: ’every parent deserves a child, but some children don’t deserve their parents.’”

She shook her head.

“After all these years of marriage, that woman STILL doesn’t show any remorse for nearly murdering her own brother? It’s just fucking disgusting.”

She thought about the cultural context—this was an old era where girls typically got married quite young, often in their mid-teens. Maya’s parents had clearly been progressive and loving, never forcing their daughter into anything, treating all their children as equals regardless of gender.

And their reward for that enlightened parenting was a daughter who rejected everything they valued, fell in love with a man old enough to be her father, nearly killed her own brother, and showed zero remorse.

Heena could only imagine how desperate and heartbroken those parents must have been to finally disown their own child after trying everything to help her.

She took a deep breath and said, “Alright. Now tell me about the original owner—Seera’s—parents. I don’t have clear memories of them. I can’t find those memories properly.”

She explained: “It must be because the original Seera locked those memories away in a protected part of her mind that I can’t access. This happens sometimes with host bodies—sometimes certain memories that the original host doesn’t want a transmigrator to see are completely stored in a sealed section of the brain. No matter how much we try, we can’t access them without causing serious damage.”

She continued: “So even though I’m in this body, I can only see the memories that the original Seera was willing to let anyone know—not the painful, private ones. That’s why I need to ask you to investigate, because breaking through those sealed memories is quite exhausting and painful.”

She looked at the System seriously.

“And also, as my personal principle: I don’t want to look at someone’s painful past without getting their permission. Especially since this person asked for help by accepting a transmigrator. I owe her that basic respect.”

Hearing that principled explanation, the System nodded approvingly. “Okay, Host. I’ll search for information, but it might take slightly longer because Seera is just an NPC—a background character. NPCs don’t have much detailed storyline information in the world database.”

Hearing that, Heena nodded in understanding.

The System added: “Well, there was one small line in the basic background notes that said ’her parents sold her,’ but I can’t find any other details beyond that.”

Hearing that, Heena immediately shook her head. “I don’t think that’s the complete truth.”

The System asked, “Why not, Host?”

Heena raised her hand and looked at it thoughtfully. “If her parents had literally betrayed her and sold her like livestock, she wouldn’t have such strong mental fortitude. She wouldn’t have the courage and inner strength that I can sense from the residual personality imprint in this body.”

She explained her reasoning: “I think there’s something missing from that story. And look at this—”

She held out her hands for the System to examine.

He looked at them. “I don’t see anything unusual, Host.”

Heena sighed and said patiently, “Normally, a village farm girl or a girl who wasn’t cherished by her family—her hands should be rough and covered with calluses from hard labor. But Seera’s hands are quite soft and well-maintained. They don’t look like the hands of someone who regularly did rough, painful work.”

She flexed her fingers.

“But at the same time, her body IS strong—the muscles are developed, the stamina is good. That means she did some form of physical work, but not heavy or painful labor. She was kept active but not abused.”

Heena’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

“And I don’t think that’s something parents who didn’t love their child would bother with. Parents who were going to sell their daughter wouldn’t care about keeping her hands soft or making sure she only did appropriate amounts of work.”

She looked at the System directly.

“So I want you to find everything you can about the original female lead Maya’s parents. I have a strong feeling they’re not just ordinary people. If they were able to resist the protagonist’s halo effect enough to disown the ’heroine’ and cut ties completely, they must be extraordinary in some way.”

She added: “Most parents in these stories are forced by narrative pressure to forgive the protagonist no matter what terrible things they do. But these parents actually held firm to their principles and cut her off. That takes incredible mental strength and moral conviction.”

The System nodded, understanding the assignment. “I’ll investigate thoroughly, Host.”

’’[Days Passing – Gathering Information]’’

Of course, the System knew that when Heena gave an order, she expected thorough results.

Soon, days began passing by with Heena doing her work and simultaneously gathering information about her surroundings.

The problem was that the original Seera hadn’t liked to travel much and hadn’t been brought here from very far away, so there weren’t detailed memories about the wider region.

But thanks to the daily tasks of fetching water and gathering firewood—because literally she was now the ONLY servant in this household, and the temporary day workers who came in only helped with specific heavy tasks for a few hours before leaving—Heena was forced to explore the surrounding area.

Cooking and cleaning for the household wasn’t terribly difficult work by itself. Heena could handle it.

And thanks to her modern knowledge and practical mindset, she’d already stopped doing stupid, backbreaking labor unnecessarily.

She’d stopped wiping the floor on her hands and knees with just a rag. Instead, she’d fashioned a handmade mop with a long handle using materials she found, so she could clean while standing up like a normal person.
