Chapter 1000: Chapter 1000: Taking Little Ya’er Home

Ding Yuehua was surprised, “Settled? You’re not messing with me, are you? Who?”

“Someone you don’t know. You’ll see once the engagement is finalized.”

Shu Yu thought, considering the current trend and the constant stream of matchmakers visiting, the day for the engagement probably isn’t far off.

Ding Yuehua didn’t press further since she wasn’t very close with Sister Yu.

It was simply a pity that her cousin would have to look elsewhere for a match.

Ding Yuehua felt regretful she hadn’t managed to play the matchmaker and create a good union.

She wondered if there might be an opportunity with Yu in the future; she’d just have to pay more attention later.

Shu Yu didn’t mention her own engagement. She wasn’t like her older sister–Ding Yuehua was the type to tirelessly inquire until she had all the details. As for Meng Yunzheng, it was impossible to explain, so she chose not to bring it up for now. She figured it would become clear in time.

What she didn’t know was that Ding Yuehua herself had an unrelenting matchmaker’s mind and an inexplicable enthusiasm for the matter.

Since that day, whenever a single man appeared, Ding Yuehua couldn’t help but ask a few extra questions.

Fortunately, she thought her good friend was extraordinary and felt that, as a Village Chief, none of these men were a match for her. Thus, she never mentioned them in Shu Yu’s presence.

The next day, Shu Yu took Little Ya’er along and headed to the manor.

Accompanying them was Ah Ning, who had been taking care of Little Ya’er over the past few days.

Ah Ning had suffered hardships before and had been especially attentive to Little Ya’er, a girl younger than her and even more unfortunate.

This time, as Little Ya’er was returning to the manor, Ah Ning couldn’t help but feel reluctant to part. Since she’d never been to the manor, Shu Yu decided to bring her along.

The two little girls nestled in the mule carriage, chattering away. After spending the last few days with Ah Ning’s constant chatter, Little Ya’er had grown bolder and started speaking more.

However, as the mule carriage drew closer to the manor, she gradually fell silent, likely thinking of Uncle Cui again.

When the mule carriage arrived at the manor, Zhou Qiao was at the entrance working on some needlework. Beside her were a few women from the farmers’ households, one of them being Ms. Guo.

Despite her social anxiety, Zhou Qiao seemed much more at ease here.

The people in this area were unfamiliar with her, especially since Daniu was now the Village Chief and also a cousin of Monarch Lu Xiang. Naturally, the farmers kept their distance from them.

This distance was something Zhou Qiao appreciated–no one asked her personal and hard-to-answer questions, and the conversations were more about the nearby happenings and amusing stories.

When they saw Shu Yu and the others coming over, Zhou Qiao and the women present all stood up.

“Sister-in-law, how are you settling in here? Are you getting used to it?” Shu Yu stepped down from the carriage, followed by Little Ya’er and Ah Ning.

Zhou Qiao couldn’t help but smile, “Quite well, I’m very used to it here. It’s nice. Come on in, I’ll go get you some water.”

Ms. Guo, noticing that Little Ya’er was safe and sound, secretly let out a sigh of relief.

The little girl couldn’t wait and ran straight to Ms. Guo, asking, “Auntie, do you know where my grandpa is? I want to go see him.”

Ms. Guo couldn’t help but lift her head and look at Shu Yu, who nodded, “She misses her grandpa. Please take her to him.”

“Alright, sure.” Ms. Guo immediately took Little Ya’er’s hand and led her off to pay respects to Uncle Cui.

Everyone else dispersed and returned to their homes, while Shu Yu and Ah Ning followed Zhou Qiao into the manor.

The original servants of the manor had all been taken away by Jiang Kuanyu. Currently, two women were hired to help with cleaning and cooking. As Shu Yu entered, one of them promptly brought over tea.

Shu Yu took a seat and drank two sips, letting out a contented sigh before asking, “Where’s Brother Daniu?”
